K. Merit Magallon is a final year Chemical Engineering undergraduate student at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Guadalajara, Mexico. As part of her undergraduate program, she is currently spending the fall semester at UT Austin, working under the mentorship of Dr. Yael Glazer. Her research explores challenges and opportunities at the intersection of water and energy in Mexico, including the potential for renewable energy deployment and the technical, economic, and institutional barriers to implementing sustainable technologies.
Before joining the Webber Energy Group, Merit worked on an industrial wastewater treatment project focused on the adsorptive removal of color from tequila vinasses, where she gained experience in experimental research, data analysis, and process modeling. Through her work at Tecnológico de Monterrey and UT Austin, she is interested in strengthening research connections between Mexico and Texas and in understanding how engineering, environmental, and economic considerations can support the transition toward more sustainable water and energy systems.
