The Webber Energy Group is a research group within the LBJ School of Public Affairs and the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin that addresses critical energy and environmental issues at the intersection of engineering, policy and commercialization. The group engages undergraduate, graduate, and professional academic researchers from a variety of engineering, policy, and scientific disciplines.
When engineers, scientists, and researchers fail to engage in the policy-making process, energy policies run the risk of accidentally undermining each other, failing to achieve strategic aims, or proving impossible from the outset. The Webber Energy Group seeks to rectify this problem by bridging the divide between policymakers and academics for issues related to energy and the environment. We bring scientific methodology, consulting services, and technical expertise to bear on policy-oriented research questions in order to inform decision-makers and guide the world onto a more sustainable path.
We embrace applying our technical skills to analyzing the societal context of our research problems. Our affiliations with the the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, the Cockrell School of Engineering, the Energy Institute, the Jackson School of Geosciences, and the Austin Technology Incubator broaden and support our efforts.
After leaving the group, our alumni transition to other top-tier institutions, companies and research groups using their work here as a foundation to continue solving energy-related challenges and improving energy literacy. Through academic research, publications, and world-wide energy literacy campaigns, current and former Webber Energy Group members strive to change the way the world thinks about energy.
