Andrew Igdal

Graduate Research Assistant

Andrew Igdal, originally from the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina, holds bachelor’s degrees in physics and economics from NC State University. His passion for environmental sustainability started early, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in high school to work on DOE net-zero homes. Professionally, he has contributed research at the Post Road Foundation, where he focuses on quantifying and advancing beneficial electrification programs in underserved rural communities.

Currently, Andrew is pursuing a PhD in Public Policy at the University of Texas at Austin’s LBJ School of Public Affairs and is part of the Webber Energy Group. His research addresses the challenges of expanding transmission infrastructure to integrate renewable energy and reduce environmental impacts, while also enhancing grid reliability and promoting energy equity. He is excited by the challenge of balancing the energy transition with economic, environmental, and societal needs.

Outside of his academic work, Andrew enjoys time with family, backpacking, rock climbing, reading and writing. He is committed to maintaining a deep connection to nature and rural communities, with a particular focus on making a tangible impact in underserved areas through energy and sustainability initiatives.
